"I like large parties. They're so intimate. At small parties there isn't any privacy." That's one of the memorable quotes from F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic American novel, The Great Gatsby.
And it may be why the award-winning Great Gatsby Gala is still going strong after 28 years of raising funds for the Greater Carolinas Chapter of the National MS Society. Or maybe the annual gala's success is because even those who don't normally get excited about a costume party love to dress up and pretend they're back in the Roaring 1920s.
This year's fun-filled party is from 7 to 11 p.m. Aug. 27 at Wells Fargo Atrium, 301 S. Tryon St. The dress code is Black Tie or 1920s attire. Guests will enjoy hors d'oeuvres from some of Charlotte's best restaurants, an open bar, a silent auction and dancing to the 15-piece band Russ Wilson and His Famous Orchestra. Proceeds go to help the 18,000 people living with MS in 97 counties of North Carolina and all of South Carolina.
Tickets are $75 each, or two for $120. VIP tickets are $125 and include access to a pre-event reception from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Speakeasy Lounge. To buy tickets, click here.
