Crown Jewels Ball: Stardust & Stetsons is the theme of the annual Charlotte Concerts gala that honors Bill Gorelick and includes silent and live auctions, dinner and dancing. An Evening with Dan Rather: The Learning Society of Queens University of Charlotte presents this evening with the award-winning broadcast journalist. The former CBS News anchor and 60 Minutes correspondent has covered major news stories from Kennedy's assassination (he was the first to break the news the president had been killed) to staying on the air for 18 hours straight on Sept. 11, 2001 and the Indian Ocean tsunami. 7 p.m. Feb. 20. Southern Spring Home & Garden Show: Feb. 23-25 and March 2-4 at The Park Expo and Conference Center, 800 Briar Creek Road. This annual event takes place over two weekends and features hundreds of experts in remodeling, decor and more. There are also thousands of square feet of gardens, florals and unique landscaping plus a cooking stage, a marketplace where you can shop for the latest home accessories and gifts, and celebrity appearances. Top American designer Vern Yip who spent four seasons on TLC's Trading Spaces and a decade as one of the favorite designers on HGTV will speak at 5 p.m. Feb. 23; and 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Feb. 24. Matt Blashaw of HGTV's Yard Crashers and Vacation House for Free will speak at 5 p.m. March 2; 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. March 3; and 1 p.m. March 4. Dancing With The Stars Of Charlotte Gala: The theme is the Most Incredible Gala, inspired by Charlotte Ballet’s premiere of The Most Incredible Thing. Local stars from some of Charlotte’s most esteemed corporations are paired with the professional dancers of Charlotte Ballet to raise funds for the ballet company and each star’s chosen charity. Gala chairs are Drs. Florence and Edward Kim. The dance pairs will compete for two awards – People’s Choice and Judge’s Choice. The People’s Choice title will be awarded for most funds raised and Judges’ Choice for the top score received from the judges. March 3 at Knight Theater.
